Make a difference this summer and sign up to volunteer at Shalom Park Freedom School! Each summer, eight Shalom Park agencies work together to provide a six-week, literacy based camp for economically disadvantaged children. This is the fifth year Shalom Park has sponsored a Freedom School, and more hands are needed than ever! The camp has expanded to serve 80+ scholars, up from 50 in previous years. These scholars are selected from Huntington Farms Elementary and Sterling Elementary, the two schools that have faith-based partnerships with Temple Israel and Temple Beth El.

The Shalom Park Freedom School will be held June 18-July 29, 2015. Volunteers of all ages will find plenty of opportunities to give of their time and talent – just once or several times during the six-week camp. Go to for a complete list of volunteer opportunities.
This year, Shalom Park Freedom School has a new, online registration process for new and returning volunteers. Once registered, volunteers will not have to create a new profile in future years; they can simply update their information online as needed. To register as a volunteer, adults and teens (10th-12th graders) should go to and click on “Get Involved.” Be sure to select Shalom Park as the volunteer site when signing up for volunteer opportunities.

Younger teens can volunteer at Shalom Park Freedom School as well. Rising 7th, 8th or 9th graders can help with field trips and activities, but they must be accompanied by a parent, or other adult, who has completed the volunteer registration process. Volunteering at Shalom Park Freedom School makes an ideal B’nei Mitzvah Project! For more information, visit, or contact Eileen Davis at, or Janna Stein at
