Shalom Park Freedom School Summer 2015
There is so much to do to get ready for Summer 2015 when 80 young scholars (K-5) from Huntingtowne Farms Elementary and Sterling Elementary will come to spend 6 weeks with us at Shalom Park! So whether you are a returning volunteer, an aspiring new volunteer, a senior citizen, a teenager, or a pre-teen, please contact us with your availability and your talents — a smile is plenty!
On our Committee Chair Contact Roster you will find the emails for all our committee chairs. If you’d like to donate peanut-free kosher snacks then contact Nancy Tarbis and she will explain the how and where to drop off your snack donations. If you’d like to be a supply shopper (we need one per week for just a couple of hours) or would like to donate supplies or help with site set up or break down (you can do this with a pre-teen in tow), please contact Supply Chair Shirley Rosen. If you’d like to lead or assist with a 45 or 90 minute enrichment class one afternoon, then contact Donna Emerson or Nadine Baccellieri, our Enrichment Co-Chairs. Perhaps you’d like to help with the spring swimsuit/towel drive so that our scholars have the proper gear for their swimming lessons. If so, then contact Julie Rizzo at LJCC Cares.
If you’d like to donate books or magazines for our scholars and their parents to have for their home libraries, then contact Nicole Lamparello at the Levine Sklut Library who heads up 6 Weeks! 6 Books! Want to help pick up and package challahs to go home with our scholars on Fridays? Then contact Michelle Kirchenbaum who spearheads Challahs for Scholars! Want to volunteer to man the greeter desk, be a chaperone at one of our field trips or to flip burgers at our Cane Creek Barbecue outing or find out about more volunteer opportunities? Then contact our Volunteer Chair, Eileen Davis.
So you’ve heard about Harambee but wonder what is it? Harambee means Pull Together in Swahili. You don’t have to be a Harambee Reader to join our scholars for Harambee! This Summer 2015 we will be have several Harambee Coffees where you can drop in at 8 a.m. and join our 80 scholars for their morning pep rally where they come together for cheers and listen to a community reader share a favorite story. Dates TBA, so stay tuned to this website.
By now you get the picture that there will be a lot happening at Shalom Park Freedom School this summer. Come be a part of the village that makes a difference in the life of a child.
